Things that went through my head this week:
Ok wow, yup that works. (As Alicia had me do a stretch therapy session with Becky Monday morning after my long run and I could feel how tight it was.)
My butt thanks you Alicia. (During my easy 35 min run on Tuesday after I don’t even know how many squats I did on Monday.)
Is that an hour for a long run on my schedule this weekend?!?!?!?!?!?!
Wow this is a lot of corn. (Running through multiple corn fields during my long run)
Ok that was definitely net downhill and so now I have to run uphill on the way back?! (Long run)
Third week was tough, pushing through a plateau and keeping my mind focused as I headed out to vacation on Friday. I knew I needed to get in all my workouts as it’s always a bit harder to get everything in during the time off and trying to spend time with my family.
Because this was the third week in, I was starting to get the hang of coming to the gym. Getting up early isn’t too much of an issue. I am definitely more of a morning person. The exercises Alicia had been putting on my list were becoming more familiar. I was more efficient getting through them and Becky was extremely helpful letting me know how I could fix my form to make sure I was really getting the benefit of the exercise. Even though it was usually harder…
My runs are not necessarily feeling easier, but they are feeling better. My hilly neighborhood always keeps me honest as my overall mile times seem slower but I am trying to get up the hills in a slow jog vs. walking them.
And then I see my long run. 60 mins. Easy, but an hour. Where did that even come from? I mean yeah, it makes sense. I did 45 mins, and then 50, so yeah I guess that’s the next logical amount. We headed up to Vermont for a week’s vacation on Friday and so I told myself I would do it Saturday morning before I really went into vacation mode. We were driving around and I found a sign for a rail trail. We took a closer look and there was some parking nearby. So 5:30 AM Saturday morning my alarm went off. I grabbed one of my dogs and off we went.
We drove to the rail trail, and although I am not as familiar with the area, I did feel a bit safer with my dog Copper. We headed off on a packed gravel trail with some homes on either side and the farther in we went, it turned into more woods and then into corn fields on either side. I think there was some smoke from the wildfires where I didn’t see a full sunrise but it was still nice and quiet. And although it may have still been on the slower side it did get done. And I was pretty much jogging the whole time. I know I said it before but I am really liking running for time vs. distance. Excited to see how it progresses.
I can’t end this week’s blog without a note on my nutrition. I started to incorporate some more of the options that Lauren had mentioned. We had a meal with quinoa that I made more into a bowl with chicken and veggies. Trying to continue to have healthier snack options on hand. Next week will be tough being on vacation but we plan on bringing some of our staple foods and buying some while we are up there to have in the house. I’ll let you know how it goes next week. 🙂
