Meghan’s Journey – Meet an AHB Rockstar

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with the team at A Healthy Balance? Maybe you are a bit nervous to pick up the phone or send an email to start the conversation with us. They often say the first step is the hardest and that definitely has some truth behind it. Often it is the unknown that makes us the most hesitant. So we are going to break the experience, from one of our newest client’s perspective. Meet Meghan – absolute Rockstar in my opinion! She is going to be sharing her journey at A Healthy Balance with the world via a weekly blog and we are so excited to see her absolutely crush her goals – feel stronger and fitter, keep up with her toddler and complete the London Marathon in April 2025.

u·ni·corn (noun)

  • 1. a mythical animal typically represented as a horse with a single straight horn projecting from its forehead.
  • 2. something that is highly desirable but difficult to find or obtain.

When I first posted in a Massachusetts Women’s Running group on Facebook, that’s what I stated I was looking for. A unicorn. As much as I would love to find the mythical animal, I was looking for a person or organization I believed would be very tough to find.

I am a 40 year old, Full-time working mom & wife, Ovarian cancer survivor and signed up to run the London Marathon for 2025. That’s a mouthful even for me to say it all. I have just a few things going on in my life. And that life had gotten a bit away from me when it came to my overall health and wellness. IMG 1384

I have run countless races from 5ks to 10ks to half-marathons and 3 marathons, Boston in 2017 and 2019 and NYC in 2019. So yeah, I can run another but that confidence is a little shaky about the shape my body currently is in. Over the years, I have worked with different trainers, nutritionists and organized workout classes. Some have definitely worked more than others but I am the first to admit I am in a rut and needed some help to guide me to what I needed to do now to get myself moving and to strengthen my body.

So when I started to write my Facebook post, I noted, I know I might be looking for a unicorn but this is what I am trying to find. I wanted to find someone that could help with nutrition, weight loss, a running coach or maybe even a therapist, but I could also not spend thousands of dollars to do so. So yeah, a unicorn.

I got numerous comments recommending many of the items I had listed, but one person that was tagged was Alicia Golden, Owner of A Healthy Balance. Alicia and I connected over messenger and she scheduled a call to chat with me even during her family vacation. She mentioned she had nutritionists on staff that would be covered by my insurance and talked through how she personally is a running coach and a trainer. Wow. This could work I thought.

Fast forward to today. Week 1 at A Healthy Balance. I am excited, nervous, anxious but overall ready. I need to do this for myself, not just for my goal to run and complete the London marathon next year but for my family and most importantly myself. I am excited to document this journey with you and the team at A Healthy Balance. I am excited for Alicia’s and the team’s help to guide me to where I need to be. Here goes nothing.
