I grew up hearing all about bacteria and how bad it is, causing you to get sick and hiding on every surface in public places. But bacteria isn’t all bad. Probiotics, often called “good bacteria” help keep our digestive system functioning properly and offer us some level of protection from harmful bacteria. While you don’t necessarily need probiotics in your diet, they definitely don’t hurt and research suggests they help in the fight to keep you healthy. Look for products that list “live and active cultures” on their labels such as yogurt, and fermented and unfermented milk. Be sure to slowly add probiotics to your diet to gauge your body’s reaction and strive to include them as part of a healthy diet.
