10 Steps to Habit Change
This time of year is the perfect time to take advantage of local farmers markets. Because produce is grown locally and picked at the peak of freshness, their textures, aromas and flavors are enhanced and nutrients are preserved. Also, farmers markets are often cheaper than the grocery store because there is no middle man to package, deliver, and sell the produce, not to mention supporting local growers strengthens your community and local economy.
Some tips for shopping at the market:
- Give a new fruit or veggie you have never tried before a chance
- Ask the grower for his or her favorite way to prepare a certain product
- Keep your recipes simple and enjoy the natural flavors
- Go early or go late-the best selection is available early in the day, while the best deals are available at the end of the day
- Enjoy your finds!
